(Ephesians 6:7)
As president Andrea Cook said in her inaugural speech this last fall, "I am committed – with God as my strength – to giving my all to lead the college to a new level of engagement with the city of Portland. God did not place Warner Pacific College in the heart of this vibrant city for us to keep to ourselves. He is calling us to be a force for change—a community that demonstrates inclusion and diversity and that is unafraid to address issues of injustice and need in our community." This Wednesday we get the chance to do just that! Commo
n Day of Service has been a great Warner tradition where everybody on campus, professors included, take a day off from classes and go out into the city to serve wherever we are needed. From clearing Mt. Tabor from the abundance of blackberry bushes to helping children learn to read at Atkinson Elementary School. Over the years that Common Day of Service has been a part of Warner, we have saved the city from spending thousands on the cleanup of Tabor, assisted elementary school teachers in their sometimes over-sized classes, beautified both Atkinson elementary and Pioneer School, and created important bonds in our wonderful city. This is honestly one of my favorite things about our community. Our saying is "Where faith and scholarship lead to service" and what better way to serve than spend an entire day improving the city where we currently reside! I hope to see everybody out there serving on Wednesday!
